“We don’t understand how algorithms affect humans, and how humans affect algorithms”
The author John Green once remarked. Recent advances in artificial intelligence as led to technologies that serve fairly human needs. One such technology is Google’s Magic Eraser. Meant to hide blemishes, unwanted objects, and most often — unwanted people, it is a great example of our desire to edit our realities into a more comforting experience. In this project, I explore how the attempts of this technology to erase objects it does not quite understand lead to the machine speaking its language. Often the effects are cheeky. Other times they are amorphous in unusual ways.
